Dis/Engage sneak peek
Here is my English degree dissertation, Written by myself and Illustrated by the simply outstanding Jade Sarson!
Dis/Engage is the story a pair of confused superpowered individuals: a man who is bored with the fame that comes with being the hero, Luis A.K.A Phoenix, and a woman - seen only as an ice-wielding villain - who finds herself trying to gain Phoenix’s attention, the Ice Queen. One day Luis becomes conflicted after battling the Ice Queen and he feels that… maybe he’s in love with this crazy icicle-throwing woman? How do you admit your feelings to a person you’ve been fighting nonstop for 2 years? Does she feel the same?
All the questions and more will be answered once the comic has been completed, which will be very soon indeed! Whilst I won’t be selling it directly (I’m far too shy for anything like that) there’s a very real possibility of releasing the pages in the future and, more importantly, I want to take my first baby steps into the artistic world with it a show it to some close friends and comic compatriots. This is my first full length comic, so I’m simultaneously scared crapless and out-of-my-head excited!
Dis/Engage is my English degree dissertation for my final year at the University of Lincoln. After convincing my tutors to allow me to hand in a fully illustrated comic I spend the latter half of last year developing it and writing the script (limited to 8800 words, which was very tight) and preparing it for illustrating, which has been taking place through the winter.
Man, isn’t this cover the best? My original drawing for it was a red and blue blob with stick figures inside them. Give it to Jade, though, and she gives it the makeover of a lifetime. Her pages for this have been nothing less than beautiful - being as they’re all in full colour too.. I really can’t wait to have the final book in my hands.
Very excited to be able to show you guys this now! Dean has written a really fun story for his dissertation and when he asked me to illustrate it I had one of those moments. Those “I gotta draw this!” moments, when you’re convinced you’ve got to be the one to do it! The characters are really great and I’m having a lot of fun with the pages because this is essentially the first full colour (not limited colour) comic I have done in ages… so I wanna show you guys what I can do!
We hope you all look forward to reading it, but I’ve got to finish it first~! I can’t wait *colour colour*
So in the meantime, reblog/retweet/go ahead and shout about it! :D Thanks everyone.
